August 14, 2019: I keep forgetting to mention this, but if you play a musical instrument (acoustic), bring it to our gathering on the 30th. We plan to entertain ourselves!

August 7, 2019: For our next get-together we are going to reprise our last one, meaning that we are going for lunch at Journey’s End and re-convene at Vines Park immediately afterward. June 22, 2019: The date of August 30th, 2019, which is a Friday, has been selected for the next Yard Dogs get-together. No place or time have been announced. Those details will come later.

June 13, 2019: The word today is: the next Yard Dogs meeting/get-together is being planned now. As soon as there is something to tell, we will pass the word around. Until then…..

11a. May 25th, 2019: If you didn’t make it, sorry, we had a great time. Between a healthy southern-cooking buffet and watermelon in the park, the Yard Dogs (courtesy of Leonard) had a great day.

Leonard (WC4FM) went to a lot of trouble over the past several weeks to arrange this for all of us, and it worked out well. Folks came in from far and wide. Sure, we talked a little radio, but mostly we enjoyed each other’s company and that’s just fine with me!

The suggestion now is to hold more events like this, once a quarter, and move them around so as to accommodate everyone. Sounds like a plan to me! Anybody got any ideas?

11. May 25th, 2019 : (Earlier meetings are listed in order below. Any new meetings will now be listed in reverse order…that is, the newest meeting will be listed first)  The Yard Dogs have a get-together scheduled for May 25th, 2019. This is the weekend that precedes Memorial Day which is the 27th. The event will be a two-part affair with lunch at a local buffet first, followed by a get-together at a local park.

To kick off the day. those who wish to should meet at Journey’s End restaurant in Loganville, GA at 11AM. The address is 4319 Atalanta Hwy. (otherwise known as U.S. 78) 30052.  Telephone 770-554-1770. Journey’s End is a popular Southern cooking buffet with a website of journeysendrestaurant.com. Lat/longs are: N 33.84072 / W -083.90874. To reach the restaurant you must enter the Publix/Loganville Town Center parking lot and proceed up the hill behind Chik-fil-A.

Following lunch we will move to Vines Park which is about 1.5 miles northwest of the restaurant. Bring a cooler with your soft drinks and a chair or two. Leonard (WC4FM) is planning on bringing horseshoes and other entertainment to the park. Maybe somebody will take a picture or two which we can put on the website.

Address of Vines Park is 3500 Oak Grove Road SW, Loganville, GA. 30052. The lat/longs for the park entrance are N 33.858606/W -083.922044. Of course, communication via the K1KC 146.61 repeater and/or the Yard Dogs room (#40383) is a good way to stay in touch if you are attending.

  1. June 16th, 2017 : This was our first meeting and it was held at the W4DEL QTH in limbo between Covington and Porterdale, Georgia. Subject of the evening was the SharkRF OpenSpot.

2. July 21st, 2017 brought our second meeting and it was also held somewhere in Georgia at the W4DEL QTH. Subjects were System Fusion, WiRES-X and C4FM.

3. August 24th, 2017 was the date of meeting number three. This meeting was held at the Walton County library in Monroe, Georgia and the subject was Reflectors: What are they and how         do they work?

4. Sunday, October 29th, 2017 was the date of this month’s meeting. It was held at the Monroe Library, 217 West Spring Street, Monroe, Georgia 30655 from 3-5PM.  Subject material covered was ‘digital voice methods’. Thanks to all who attended. Dinner was enjoyed by all immediately after the meeting at a nearby restaurant.

5. December 2017 meeting is: Friday December 8th at 7PM in Oxford, Georgia. Address is 1423 Hightower Trail 30054 at the W0KIH QTH.  Expected program: Digital Radio Mondiale. CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED – CANCELLED. Sorry, but the rough weather made it a poor idea to hold a meeting tonight. The meeting will be re-scheduled and the new date, time and location posted here and on the Yahoo Groups page. Thanks to all of you were planning on attending or who got materials together for the meeting. We will get together soon!

6. Sunday January 28th, 2018 was the date of the last Yard Dogs meeting. Subject material was APRS, and a demonstration of a dirt cheap method of putting together an APRS station was shown. An in-depth discussion of the APRS-IS system was included. The highlight was a method of adding GPS wirelessly to an APRS station. Afterwards we were forced to eat some awesome BBQ. I felt terrible about it but I ate the food anyway.

7. The March 2018 meeting was held at 2PM on March 11th, 2018 at the QTH of W4DEL. The true meaning of the Yard Dogs concept was shown as we were able to further the knowledge of one of our members (and ourselves for that matter). The group must be useful to ALL participants or it does not meet its objective. We enjoyed the meeting and are looking forward to going out and practicing our skills at home.

8. The April 2018 meeting was held April 22th, 2018 at the QTH of W4DEL starting at 3PM. True to our goals, we helped each other learn some new techniques. Today we worked on YAAC, UZ7HO soundmodem and a few other items. Plus, we had a lively discussion about the state of amateur radio! It was great fun on a good day to be inside. After that, a few of us went out to a local steakhouse and enjoyed an excellent meal. We did run into a problem with jar heap files allocations. That set us back a bit.

9. On May 17th, there was a demonstration of Yaesu System Fusion, C4FM and WiRES-X at the Walton County Repeater Group meeting in Between, Georgia. We thank all those who turned out for the meeting and helped make it a success. On display were five mobile radios and three HT’s, plus a WiRES-X modem and a complete node station. A practical demonstration was given as part of the demonstration.

THE MEETINGS SEEM TO HAVE MORPHED INTO THE WEEKLY C4FM NET, BUT THERE IS NO REASON WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO HAVE PHYSICAL MEETINGS. ANYONE WISHING TO GET TOGETHER SHOULD BRING THAT TO OUR ATTENTION SO WE CAN SCHEDULE A TIME AND PLACE. ALSO, LET US KNOW IF YOU WISH TO PRESENT A SUBJECT, OR WISH FOR A PARTICULAR SUBJECT TO BE PRESENTED. WE WILL DO OUR BEST.

10. October 21, 2018: The Yard Dogs met at the Monroe library in Monroe, Georgia and discussed a number of things related to the Internet and related technology. Among those subjects were VPN servers, remote control of your desktop at home and VPN routers.
